CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF FLINT

ORDINANCE NO. 6021-08

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 6021-07 BEING AN ORDINANCE TO establish a set of standards for the fabrication, creation and use of signs, symbols, marking or advertising devices within the Charter Township of Flint. These standards are designed to protect and promote the general welfare, health, and safety of persons within the community, to aid and assist the development and promotion of business and industry by providing regulations which allow and encourage creativity, effectiveness and flexibility in the design and use of such devices and minimize the unreasonable restraint upon the needs of the business community, and to prevent traffic hazards and to encourage and preserve community aesthetics.

THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF FLINT ORDAINS:

SECTION 1.

Section 3.04(1)(b)(iii) of the Charter Township of Flint Ordinance 6021-07 is hereby amended to read as follows:

3.04(1)(b)(iii) One Reader Board may be double faced and must not exceed 32 square feet. Reader Boards must not interfere with traffic safety. Reader Boards may operate by electrical or mechanical means and must not pulsate.

SECTION 2.

Section 3.05 of the Charter Township of Flint Ordinance 6021-07 is hereby amended to read as follows:

3.05 Signs Permitted – Industrial Districts. On-premises within Industrial Districts, there shall be permitted:

Section 3.06(1) of the Charter Township of Flint Ordinance 6021-07 is hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 3.06(1) Off-premises signs may be permitted only on premises, which are zoned Office District, Highway Service District, Industrial District or Airport District and adjacent to a U. S. or interstate highway. All Billboards must face and be adjacent to the U.S. or interstate highway.

SECTION 4.

Section 3.06(2) of the Charter Township of Flint Ordinance 6021-07 is hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 3.06(2)Billboard signs shall be double-faced and shall not exceed six hundred seventy-two (672) square feet in surface area per face and shall not exceed forty (40) feet in height. All other off-premise signs shall be restricted to the dimensional requirements listed within their zoning categories in Sec. 3.04 (1-4) and Sec. 3.05.

SECTION 5.

Section 5.01(5) of the Charter Township of Flint Ordinance 6021-07 is hereby amended to read as follows:

5.01(5) Which incorporates in any manner any flashing or moving lights (except as in 3.04(1)(b)(iii))

SECTION 6.

The remainder of Ordinance 6021-07 not amended by this Ordinance remains unchanged.

SECTION 7.

Effective Date

This Ordinance shall become effective upon the date the date of its publication following final passage.
