Dedicated
to promoting public safety and protecting
the community against loss of life and property.
Always striving for higher standards,
and above all else, helping others.
Our
fire department was established in 1947. The
original fire house was
located
at what is now the township offices. The original
two-story building sported a fireman's pole
which is now displayed in Station Two.
The township fire department now consists of
three fire stations: Station One, located directly
behind the township offices at 1490 S. Dye Road;
Station Two, located at 3327 Flushing Road;
Station Three, located at 2511 Bristol Road.
All locations use a radio dispatch/paging system
to alert firefighters.
The combined fire departments employ 14 full-time
firefighters, including the assistant chief,
and 38 part-time, on-call firefighters.
Three trained arson investigators and two state
certified fire safety inspectors are on staff.
Ongoing personnel training is intensive and
exceeds state and federal mandatory requirements.
Additionally, the department provides fire prevention
training to businesses, fire education in schools,
twice yearly fire drills in all schools, and
participates in various community and business
activities for the purpose of education.
It maintains all 1,300 hydrants in the township,
which contains the largest water-main distribution
system in Genesee County. Its per-capita loss
ratio is the lowest in the county. This is attributed
to maintaining full-time personnel at each station.
Department vehicles include seven pump trucks,
one tower, two chief's vehicles, a captain's
vehicle; a walk-in van (Air Unit), 3 utility
pickups and an investigation van.
